Picn*x 15 Activities

Here are some of the activities that we may have at the event and/or have had at past events. If you have any questions or concerns about what to bring or park policies, please contact the volunteers at linuxpicnic@linuxpicnic.org.

If you would like to volunteer to coordinate these or any other activities please sign up using our volunteers form.

Music

Bring acoustic music instruments if you want play it at the event. Note, however, that park policies do not allow “amplified sound” (amplifier and large speaker(s)) under our event permit. Acoustic instruments are absolutely no problem, but electronic instruments would probably need to keep volume down to some threshold that we’d need to clarify with the staff to make sure. Also, typical speakers on computers or on a bullhorn (used sparingly) are not a problem for the park.

Sports & Games

Outdoor games are welcome at the park. We have plenty of grass to play on. Ideas include:

  • Frisbee, whistling football, and other throwable items
  • Soccer
  • Bocce
  • Horseshoes
  • Kites
  • Baseball or softball
  • Badminton or volleyball
  • Juggling

Geeky Activities

We may also want to engage in more geeky pursuits. Yes, there is electricity available but very few outlets, so you may want to bring a power strip and/or extension cord if you bring your laptop or other electric-powered items.

  • Wifi (we’re going to try to have Internet access somehow, but no guarantees) - SVWUX is trying to make arrangements for the picnic.
  • Installing & troubleshooting Linux on your laptop
  • PGP/GnuPG keysignings
  • Weird Stuff Warehouse visits during the event
  • Fry’s trip after the event
