To: (Picn*x XVI guests) From: "Picn*x 16 Reservations" <picnx16_rsvp@linuxpicnic.org> Subject: reminder: Linux Picnic today Just a reminder - the Linux Picnic is Saturday! (That's today when most of you read this.) This is being sent to guests who confirmed their RSVPs. Guests should plan to attend between 11AM and 4PM. Volunteers should start arriving around 8-9AM. Actually, anyone who wants to help can find things to do at any time between setup and cleanup. If you can only help a little, it's still appreciated! The Sunnyvale Baylands Park is in Sunnyvale (about 5 miles north of San Jose) just north of Hwy 237 at Lawrence/Caribbean. The park charges $5 per vehicle for entry. Save your receipt in case you need to leave and come back in. Turn *right* after entering and park anywhere. (That's the other side from last year.) http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.410831+N+121.996919+W&t=h&z=17 The Baylands Park is a beautiful place with walking and cycling trails. We have reserved the Meadowlands and Indian Grass Circle picnic areas. Wi-Fi at the site is again provided by Finisar Corp, whose offices are across the street, and by a Wi-Fi relay station you'll see in the parking lot, a Jeep with a big dish antenna, by volunteers of the Silicon Valley Wireless Users & Experimenters (SVWUX). Please note that the "Great Meadow" sports field is shared among all users of the park and is not exclusively reserved by us. We're obligated to let you know the park rules: * Nothing can be attached to or leaned on trees. * The park is a wildlife refuge. Do not bring pets. If you see any animals, leave them alone - don't even feed them. * The park only allows beer or wine to be consumed as part of a meal. All other alcohol is forbidden. * No soliciting is allowed in the park. While there are some things which sponsors are giving away, please be sure to ask before taking anything. For example, some volunteers brought some beer for themselves a couple years ago and it disappeared shortly after they arrived to work on the picnic. If you want to help, we'll be happy to accept help with setup, registration table, cooking, and then cleanup at the end. If you have an Amateur Radio license, Hams will be on these frequencies: * 446.5 simplex within the park - set your handheld radio to this * Charlie Repeater 147.855- 100pl - talk-in and transit shuttle dispatch Please bring your HT and be part of our emergency response network. We'll use Amateur Radio to dispatch the transit shuttle. Hams can help by offering to make transit shuttle runs to pick up people at shuttle stops. We have 8 groups totalling 15 people who requested shuttle pickup. We'll send them a cell number to call for pickup in a separate message. But if anyone else needs to be added, send an e-mail to picnx16-shuttle@linuxpicnic.org with your name, the pickup location (VTA Crossman or Old Ironsides, Sunnyvale Caltrain or Amtrak Great America) and and the scheduled arrival of your train or bus. We'll also have one pickup at San Jose International Airport.
