Linux Picnic Steering Committee Meeting - July 12, 2008
The Linux Picnic Steering Committee meeting was held on July 12, 2008 in Santa Clara.
Attendees:
Ian Kluft
Heather Stern
Jim Dennis
Bill Dale
Jennifer Davis
John Delaney
Summary:
The volunteers seated as the 2008 Linux Picnic Steering Committee members are: Bill Dale, Jennifer Davis, Ian Kluft, Heather Stern
Jim Dennis will coordinate the food purchasing and cooking
Heather will coordinate contact with Linux and Open Source groups
The picnic budget is usually about $2000, expecting some inflation due to transportation costs this year and allowing $2500.
The treasurer reports some funds are left over from last year.
Oracle Technology Network has already sent a sponsorship check for this year.
A walk-through will be done at the site before the picnic to look for any issues.
Dealing with an issue that has been a problem in the past, the Steering Committee approved a policy allowing the Picnic Coordinator authority to maintain order on the mail list and at picnic meetings and activities.
Stations needing to be staffed:
Registration
First aid
Activities coordinator
Radio communications + transit shuttle
Directions signs are needed to help people find the picnic.
Recruiting is primarily aimed at the Open Source community. Experience has shown that promoting too wide leads to people showing up just looking for free stuff.
Bill Dale will set up the Ham Radio station used for coordinating the transit shuttle, and recruit operators. Since we only have the one picnic area, we probably won't need radio comms within the park this time.
We need to recruit about 6 transit shuttle drivers to split up the time across the picnic.
The next picnic coordination meeting was set for Saturday, July 26.
